Background on Grace Farms
We are named Grace Farms because we consider this farm a "gift" (Grace). We have been given this opportunity to farm, raise two commodities and be of service to the community, helping people train their dogs. We have been growing slowly but steadily into an 80 acre facility since 1976.
The land was originally purchased purely for bait farming. We hired a man to create the ponds as we could afford them with John's school teaching salary. There were overgrown evergreen trees on it that we sold as Christmas trees to get "rid" of them and after that good experience, we decided we would try to raise them correctly from seedlings...all the way to correct shape by fertilizing, mowing and shearing. We have been offering our trees to the public by the traditional "choose and cut" family friendly atmosphere since 1977.
The baitfish business became secondary. The ponds are used actively more months of the year (April-October) for dog training. They do produce some saleable bait but only two months of the year (wholesale only). So, we do not emphasize this aspect at all as we cannot keep up with the demand and never will, due to the limited nature of how crayfish reproduce (once a year!).
